Catherine Gignac is featured in PAROLES 2026 with Ballet of shadows
We are very pleased to announce that Catherine Gignac will present Ballet of shadows on display at the 23rd edition of The word of the broadcasters, the word of the artists, which will be held from September 22 to 24, 2026 in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, under the auspices of VALSPEC.
This presence is all the more significant given that Ballet of shadows, Catherine Gignac's first solo show, was presented as A personal favorite by Annie Dorion, general director and artistic director of the Salle Pauline-Julien.
In Ballet of shadows, Catherine Gignac creates a veritable live cinema. Alone on stage, she draws with sand on a luminous table while her creations are projected onto a large screen. The images appear, transform and disappear to the rhythm of the music, in a language without words where the gesture becomes almost choreographed. The show thus offers a visual, poetic and immersive journey at the border between drawing, movement and light.
Annie Dorion had discovered Catherine's work during the presentation of Charming and Agile, by Jocelyn Sioui, at the Salle Pauline-Julien in November 2024. She highlights, in particular, the elegance of her gestures, the precision of her images, and the great sensitivity of her work. With Ballet of shadows, She was particularly attracted by the «unusual, out-of-the-ordinary and poetic» nature of the proposal and by its ability to evoke a multitude of emotions through its moving paintings.
